Community Outreach The Boston Teachers Union is committed in continuing its effort to reach out to parents and community groups. The Boston Teachers Union is continuing the, Homework Helpers Program. This program is a joint venture of Superintendent Payzant, Mayor Menino, the Tremont Credit Union and the Boston Teachers Union. Homework Helpers Program puts a teacher in every library in the city of Boston on the evening that it's open. The teacher is there to help any child who shows up with their homework. The program is funded by the school department, mayor's office, the credit union and the teachers union. It has been received well by the parents who have taken advantage of it. The Boston Teachers Union is involved in joining the conversation about closing the achievement gap and a host of other issues that not only concern parents, but the union as well. We've been meeting with ACORN, BPON, Jamaica Plain Parent Organizing Network, and City Life/Vida Urbana to discuss ways for parents to negotiate special education.
