e-Bulletin
#22
(2009-10),  01/20/10

Greetings!

Good morning. Today's bulletin has two purposes:

  • To give more news about the Haitian Relief Effort this Saturday, 1/23, at the BTU and at the Twelfth Baptist Church, each to be held from 10 to 2. We wanted to get this information out before the next bulletin.
  • And to list the roll call vote of last week's Ed Reform legislation. We thank those senators and representatives who voted 'no.'
On the Haitian Relief Effort:This past Sunday we published a piece about the effort. We have more information and a statement from a teacher who's helping to head up the effort.
"Thank you to all who have called for your show of support for our effort on Saturday.   Any item you can bring will be appreciated.  Also, you can either volunteer to help us pack the items or you can just drop them off. I thank you on behalf of my people."

******************************************************************************
On the Roll Call vote of last week's Ed reform legislation...

The House vote is found here and is self-explanatory. A 'no' vote is the appropriate vote.

The Senate vote is found here and needs a little explanation. Senators Creem and Pacheco did not vote, but arranged to pair each other off. Creem voted in favor of the legislation. Pacheco voted no. Pacheco has been a very good vote for us, and his agreement to vote no without being listed is no reflection of his strong support of our position. Senators Murray, Galluccio, and Walsh did not vote. The remaining 35 senators voted for the bill 23-12.

We are obviously not happy with those who voted yes in this key, landmark vote. The irony is, many of the 'no' votes pass themselves off as pro-labor, pro-teacher. In this regard, we will make sure our opinion is known. And again, we thank those senators and representatives who voted no.

Sincerely,

Richard Stutman
