Benefits for BTU Members

BTU employees working at least half time are eligible for many negotiated benefits. Major benefits are listed below. All benefits have limitations of sorts, so please
contact the BTU for a detailed explanation.

Health Insurance

You can choose from a number of different plans offered by the city of Boston. The BTU office can send you a list of providers along with each plan's menu of benefits offered. You can also visit the city of Boston's website for more information; or call the city of Boston's Group Insurance Office at (617) 635-4570; or visit that office at Boston City Hall, Room 807.

You can only change health insurance plans during the Open Enrollment period.

New Employees can sign up for health insurance within 60 days of employment. The 60 day limit is FIRM.

Health and Welfare Coverage

Includes eye care, dental care, legal care, a sick and personal leave plan, hospitalization income supplement, hearing aid, funeral and Medic-Alert coverage.

For more information, visit the Fund's website.

Job-sharing

Two teachers (or nurses, etc.) pair up to work a single job, the details and logistics of which must be agreed upon by both teachers and the "home" principal – the principal at the school the teachers will be working.
